January 2001

Here’s hoping you all had a good Christmas and New Year break. First an apology to JOHN at the Cross-Keys which is his name and not Pete as previous published.

The children of the village would like to thank Mrs Thorns & Mrs King for their wonderful Christmas party, which they all enjoyed immensely.

Our local kids from Fulstow, Covenham, North Thoresby, Utterby, and Grainthorpe had a real Christmas treat with a visit from Lempen Puppet Theatre Company - the first time we invited a children's show as part of the Lincolnshire Rural and Community Touring Programme. Azar was the King of the monkeys - the one and only ruler of the forest beyond the rainbow. So what was he doing here - in a small zoo in England? But the kids weren't fooled he was not what he seemed and with the arrival of a new monkey food from faraway things started to change.................. The Rainbow Forest was a lovely enchanting evening with mime and music for children and parents alike and over 100 kids and adults’ altogether enjoyed the show. The Village Hall Committee wanted to put on something especially for our younger community and this was a huge success.

Forthcoming Touring Events

Don't miss "Educating Rita" on the 24th January! Who hasn't seen the great film with Julie Walters and Michael Caine? And if you haven't, then even more reason to come and see this modern classic full of sparkling wit and insight. (Tel 363682 Bob Laking to book - book early this one's going to get full up!!!)

And if you are willing to travel a bit why not take in "Wonderful Life" at Saltfleet Village Hall on the 10th January performed by New Perspectives Theatre Company ?( Remember them from "Players Angels" and from "Independent People" ?). Many of you will know and love the original classic Frank Capra film from which this play has been adapted.

AND ........ wonderful new shows planned for March and May with two new travelling theatre companies performing "Pride and Prejudice" the Jane Austen classic and "Is There Anybody Out There" a compelling drama set during the First World War then a truly great coup for Fulstow as we bring a celebrated internationally acclaimed Canadian folk singing band to perform for us!!!! Watch out for more details nearer the time.
