Christmas & New Year Lore

Draw water from a clear well on Christmas Day and you draw good fortune for all who drink it.

Kiss as many friends as you can at Christmastide; for they who once kiss under the mistletoe bough shall never quarrel. But if a man plucks a kiss from a girl he must take a white berry off the plant for every kiss he takes.

If on New Year's night the wind blow South,

This betokeneth warmth and growth,

If West, much murk and fish in the sea,

If North, much cold and snow there will be,

If East the trees will bear much fruit,

But if it be in the North-east,

It is not good for man nor beast !

Christmas is the hardest time for family's who have lost a loved one during the year or have someone they love poorly or suffering, so spare a thought & prayer for all those   around us who will find it hard the Christmas.
