Fulstow News
June 2007

I want to start this month's newsletter with a couple of apologies:

Firstly, to Richard ASKAM, for spelling his name wrong in last months issue. Sorry Richard!!

My spell check said it was wrong, but I overruled it. (Typical woman I hear you say!)

And also to the church organisers, for getting the date of the bingo wrong.

(That will teach me not to ‘cut & paste' information received in e mails!!)

I will try harder this month.

VILLAGE NEWS

After 32 years of teaching at Fulstow School , Mrs Norman is retiring at the end of the July term. Most residents in the village will either have been taught by her themselves, or have children who are or were her pupils. Anyone wishing to make a donation to her parting gift please contact Nicky Pike on 363405. There is also a retirement card and if anyone would like to write something or lend a photo of her which can be added to a sort of "This is your Life in Fulstow" please contact Nicky ASAP.

A big thank you to everyone who supported the Church Bingo. A grand total of £255.00 was raised and a great time was had by all.

Community Luncheon and School Social

On Friday, 8 th June & Friday, 6 th July, all the school children will be going to the village hall for lunch, the idea is to integrate them with anyone from the village or their friends who would like to join them for a hot 2 course lunch.

Come along if possible. Please book with either Nicky 363405 or Paula 363694

VILLAGE HALL

The Village Hall A.G.M. was held on 14 th May. Chairman Terry Nurrish reported a successful year in which the Village Hall facilities contributed enormously to help enrich our lives in so many ways. Here are just some of those ways, particularly for those who are recent arrivals to Fulstow; During the year past we have seen a fantastic show done by the children of the village “Stars in their Eyes”, a brilliant “Talk of the Town” and “Murder Mystery Night” by the Fulstow Players, a “Party in the Park” with live bands, 5 Touring Theatre companies including live flamenco dancers from Seville, a Ted Hughes play for children, a cabaret duo, a comedian poet, and a quirky folksy clowning music band. We have had a record number of parties for weddings and birthdays ranging from young to, well not very young! We had a terrific Valentine's Ball with live music and a superb meal in an ambience you would not believe possible in a Village Hall. The catering facilities are excellent and, as an aside, we have recently been given an A1 rating for Health and Safety by the E.L.D.C. inspection.

Some of the regular events are; indoor bowls club, toddlers play group, “twirlers” club, belly dancing group, slimming and exercise class, and (soon to start) a badminton club, and superb facilities for the snooker club. On the playing fields we have football teams, a tennis court available free to all, and dog agility classes on Sunday mornings. So come and join in!!! Call Ailsa on 363895 for details.

A plea from the Village Hall Committee. A large number of bowls/plates etc. are missing from the village hall. Will everyone have a look in their cupboards and return anything found to the Village Hall as soon as possible please. Crockery is very expensive and replacing all that is missing would cost a lot of money, so be honest, if it isn't yours, give it back, you know you meant to.

Also, the big green bin outside the Village Hall is for Village Hall use only , not a dumping ground for everyone's rubbish. The dustbin lorry visits the village hall car park every month; please take your unwanted items to that.

After a number of years doing a brilliant job, Nicky Pike has resigned as secretary to the village hall committee. Anyone wishing to make a booking should now contact Ailsa on 363895 .

24 hours in a day...24 beers in a case...coincidence?

Is reading in the bathroom considered multi-tasking?
