Post Office History
Fulstow Post Office and Village Store, which is situated on Main Street , at the cross roads in the heart of the village. The shop and post office have been located in the same premises for several generations and has been run by well known local characters during that time, as detailed by the previous owner to us, Mr. Keith Davies, who had the business for nearly 17 successful years.

The premises themselves on the outside have remained more or less unchanged over those years, as shown in the photographs, retaining the character and charm typical of an English rural village shop.
The Post Office undertakes all the usual facilities offered at any post office and in February 2000 went computerised with the Post Office new computer system, HORIZON.

The shop itself is typical of one in a rural village, being a newsagents and grocery all rolled into one.
We sell everything one would expect to find in either of these two types of shop, from newspapers to chewing gum and bags of coal to toilet rolls.
There is also dairy produce, ice creams, fresh vegetables and cakes, sandwiches and bread all delivered daily from other local businesses.

The Post Office has been on present site probably since turn of the century, certainly by 1917. Mr. Phillips Subpostmaster in 1917. Draper and Grocer at this time. Premises also had a bakehouse. Mr. Phillips was replaced by his son W. R. Phillips he continued as Subpostmaster until he retired in the mid to late 1950's. His son Bill Phillips was not interested in taking over the business. Mail was Delivered from North Thoresby by bicycle. This continued to at least during the second world war. Mr. Phillips was replaced by Mr. Dyer c1959 who had it for about 2 years. He was replaced by Mrs. Greenland. She was Subpostmistress for 17 years. She was followed by Mr. Taylor who was ex police. He did some internal alterations to the premises, extending the shop area to the east into a former store room. After Mr. Taylor had been in post between c1978-1980 Clive Spencer was Subpostmaster for 2 years. In February, 1982 Mr. Keith Davis and his wife Valerie took over. Keith had had a shop in Kent for the previous 10 years. The post office counter had been in the N.W. Corner and he moved it to the south centre of the shop, but later decided to provide more room for it and again moved it to the N.E. corner.
